Derek Jeter: SI's Sportsman of the Year

New York Yankee Captain Derek Jeter was named Sports Illustrated's "Sportsman of the Year" today, after leading the Bombers to their 27th World Series Championship. On his way to collecting his 5th ring, the captain, hit .334 in the regular season and .407 in the World Series.

Derek Jeter is the first Yankee ever to earn the award!

We all know that DJ AM Was a true sneakerhead, I thought this was cool and really inspiring!

As mentioned previously, in the memory of DJ AM, who unexpectedly passed away this Summer, online auctioneer eBay, DECKSTAR, and UNDFTD are hosting a special sneaker auction event to help raise money for DJ AM Memorial Fund, a foundation setup to assist those struggling through dependency and addiction. On the docket is DJ AM’s personal sneaker collection, a 10-year venture now numbered around 900+ pairs, with numerous rare and highly sought after editions.

UCF facing $3M sneaker dilemma

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A fight over the shoes Michael Jordan's son will wear at the University of Central Florida could cost the school as much as $3 million.

Freshman guard Marcus Jordan is refusing to wear shoes made by adidas, the brand the university has a contract with for all its sports. He says he will only wear his father's Nike Air Jordan shoes because it holds special meaning to his family.

The problem is UCF Knights has a $3 million, six-year contract with adidas that requires coaches and athletes to use the company's apparel and equipment.

UCF said in a statement Thursday that adidas was aware of the situation during contract renewal discussions. The university says it is working with adidas "in determining how this unique set of circumstances will work for both parties."

Yankees beat the LA Angels in the first game of the ALCS behind a great performance from CC Sabathia. It's only one game, but this game was important for the organization. Hopefully we can carry it over until today.

Grail Alert!!

One of my All time favorite shoes, is finally starting to leak back into the game. Earlier in the summer, theshoegame released info on the classic Nike Air Trainer SC Bo Jackson Raider colorway with the "34" on the back. Now, shortly after the Auburn pair released, it has become a reality.

Even though they have begun to leak, the shoe is slotted to release next month to most Nike accounts. So check out your local spot.

According to sneakerfiles and many other sneaker sources, Nike/JB will be dropping the "Slam Dunk Pack" in 2010.

Jordan Brand’s 2010 line is looking to be a literal slam dunk, as the Air Jordan III (3) Retro White-Cement Grey will return in the Slam Dunk Pack, a two pair release that celebrates MJ’s high flyin’ NBA Dunk Contest victories. The other shoe involved in this already legendary lineup is the Air Jordan II (2) Retro White/Black -Varsity Red. The Air Jordan Slam Dunk Pack will hit retailers sometime in 2010 for a currently undisclosed amount. (sneakerfiles)

Yankees Take Game: 2 With A Rod Walkoff

The Yankees had caught a lot of BS, after starting the season off 0-8 against the Red Sux. This has all changed, after the Bronx Bombers have came out on fire after the All Star Break. After pounding the Red Sox 13-6 on Thursday night, the Yankees beat the Sux in a 15 inning marathon, on a 2-run Walkoff Bomb by A Rod. AJ Burnett matched up, well bettered, the performance by Josh Beckett last night, just allowing one hit! The Yankees can improve their breathing room today,a s our ACE faces, GAY Bucholz. Sorry Sux fans, your season is quickly fading.....

After a rough series in Chicago, the Yankees won a "Must Win" game behind a huge day from Melky Cabrera! It was the first cycle the Bronx Bombers have seen since 1995. It was the 15th cycle in Yankee history and couldn't have come at a better time. They need to enjoy this day off, becuase they play 16 in a row starting Tuesday!

About Time: D-Wade to Jordan Brand

Dwyane Wade has took his game to another level. I do not want to sit here and bash on Converse, but they could not elevate D-Wade's game anymore. It was time for a change, and that change is Jordan Brand. Joining Melo, Rip, Ray Allen, and others, Dwyane Wade will represent this fraternity well. Today is big news for Nike, as they have yet, another poster boy for their label.

House Rules Wins Another Tournament

As many of you know, I spend 2 or 3 weekends a month playing competitive softball around the tr-state area. Anyways, we won our third tournament of the year. You can read the article here on cincysoftball.com if you would like!

This weekend is the best tournament of the year. The Cincinnati Major NIT at Mid America Ballyard (formerly Eggleston).
Teams from all over the country will be in, and if you have not seen softball like this before, you need to come check it out!

I've Been Slacking.....AGAIN!!

For the 5 or so of you that read my blog/updates, I am sorry I have been slacking lately. I have been really busy. Between softball, work, and a funeral mixed in, Ill keep you updated until I leave for NYC next Wednesday.

The Kid Pays Tribute to Michael...

Last night in a game against the Baltimore Orioles, Ken Griffey Jr. paid tribute to Michael Jackson, on a day where the rest of the world did too. Junior, came out to "Billy Jean" and then topped that off by wearing "ONE" White batting glove. Griffey usually wears 2 dark gloves, but thoughtfully came out this way.

We have been wanting to go to Kings Island for the longest, but the older you get, the harder it is to find the time to go. Well work gave me a floating holiday, so we got the crew, well some of it, together and rolled out to see what the new ride Diamondback was like.....

US Soccer Shocks the World

Although I am not a huge soccer fan, I was fortunate enough to see the US Men's soccer team pull of one of the biggest upsets in Soccer history.

The U.S. soccer team pulled off a major upset Thursday, beating top-ranked Spain 2-0 on goals by Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey.

The victory sends the Americans to the Confederations Cup final, and snaps Spain's 15-game winning streak. Spain hadn't been beaten since a loss to Romania in November 2006. (Info provided by the AP)

The US will play the winner of South Africa, and Brazil on Sunda in the Final of the Confederation Cup.

Oregon Football Unveils New Unis for 2009

As always, The Ducks of Oregon, have the flashiest uniforms in College Football. I like how they use the different color combination's, 384 to be exact, even though they catch a lot of crap over it. Since it is Phil Knight's Alma mater, they better have the freshest look from Nike. This year, according to yahoo.com, "Players were active in the design process -- Nike sent reps to campus to meet with a few members the team and discuss what was most important to them in a new uniform. They would have skipped the middle man and gone straight to the Ducks' most important recruiting targets, but that would have been a violation or something."
